CIVICS SCAVENGER HUNT

PROGRAM DETAILS

To help commemorate the 250th anniversary of the country, the League of Women Voters of Falls Church presents the Democracy Rocks! Civics Scavenger Hunt. The scavenger hunt is designed to teach children facts about history and civics - and encourage adults to vote in the general election on Tuesday, November 3. The event will launch on Saturday, October 17 and run through Tuesday, November 3.

Children receive a copy of a map and log sheet, then use the map to find Civics Stands with Democracy Rocks! tags at key locations of historic and/or civic importance around Falls Church. On the back of each tag is a message about civics or history. The children record the missing word from the back of the tag at each stand on their log sheet, and then turn the completed sheet in for a chance to win a prize. Detailed instructions on how the scavenger hunt will work can be found below.

How does this Scavenger Hunt work?

Step 1 - Print your copy of the Democracy Rocks! Civics Scavenger Hunt Log & Map (or pick up a copy at the Mary Riley Styles Library). Enter the child's name, adult's name, phone number, and email address on the left-hand side of the Civics Scavenger Hunt Log Sheet.

Step 2 - Using the Map, walk around Falls Church City to find the Democracy Rocks! Civics Stands. Each stand will have a Civics Tag with a message about our democracy!

Step 3 - Record the missing word(s) from the Civics Tag on your Scavenger Hunt Log Sheet.

Step 4 - After you find all the Civics Stands, head to a computer and use the League of Women Voters Falls Church website to find information about the three proposed amendments to the Virginia Constitution.

Step 5 - Submit your completed Democracy Rocks! Civics Scavenger Hunt Log Sheet to lwvfallschurchva@gmail.com by 11:59 PM on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

Please leave each Democracy Rocks! Civics Stand intact for others to find. Do not take any rocks with you.

Prizes will be awarded on Wednesday, November 4th to ten lucky winners!
