MAGNIFY YOUR VOICE. BE A PART OF OUR GRASSROOTS EFFORTS IN FALLS CHURCH.
Locally, the Falls Church League holds voter registration drives, publishes voters' guides to City elections, holds candidate forums so that voters can learn about candidates for such offices as City Council and School Board, and sponsors educational programs on important issues of concern to the community. Details about these activities can be found below.
Voter registration opportunities are advertised in the weekly newsletter and on our calendar. We hold registrations at the following community events: the Women's History Walk, Memorial Day Parade and Festival, Civic Jam, and the Fall Festival and Taste of Falls Church. We also register voters at the Mary Riley Styles Public Library as well as at senior centers and multifamily buildings. Volunteers must be members of LWV Falls Church and certified by the Virginia Department of Elections to register voters. Find details about Voter Registration Training here. Youth voter registration at Meridian High School occurs twice a year, in the fall and the spring. These opportunities are advertised in the weekly newsletter and on our calendar. In order to work inside the high school, volunteers must be members of LWV Falls Church, have Virginia DMV issued identification, and be certified by the Virginia Department of Elections to register voters. The LWV Falls Church distributes New Resident Voter Information in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese to the City's 20+ multifamily buildings. We hand out Get Ready to Vote cards at the Falls Church City Public Schools Back to School Nights for all four of our K-12 schools. In addition, we create and publish a voters' guide online and in print in advance of each election. We provide our voters' guide to citizens at their the polling places on Election Day. Volunteers sign up for a shift to help distribute the cards and the voters' guides. This is always a fun and meaningful opportunity to make new League friends and provide voting and candidate information to citizens. Find more details on Voter Information Distribution Events here.
Forums are held every local election season to ensure voters hear directly from candidates running for local offices such as the City Council and School Board. Help is needed contacting the candidates, writing candidate questions, moderating the forum, advertising the event, and more. The League never supports or opposes any political party or candidate.
