BOOK+ CLUB STRUCTURE AND CONTENT
We plan to meet monthly on the last Thursday of each month, 7:00-8:30PM. If you need a ride, we can arrange a carpool.
NOTE: Alternative dates will be set for November and December, given the holidays.
Format: Every quarter (October, January, April, July), we'll dig into a full book. In the months between, we'll do something shorter-form: a podcast episode or series, an article, or a documentary/film. Same spirit, lighter lift some months.
Hosting: We'll rotate homes/locations. If you'd like to host but can't manage the crowd at your home, we are happy to have you volunteer and help arrange a different location.
Refreshments: Keeping this simple—the host provides beverages, and anyone who'd like to bring a snack to share is welcome to, but it's entirely optional.
Facilitation: We're planning to rotate this, too. We have members willing to help facilitate and/or help anytime! To keep it simple, the person hosting will generally facilitate, but we can briefly discuss this when we next meet, and the host can always reach out for a volunteer to facilitate in their place.

September 2026:
Following our first meeting, new Book Club+ member Christine Gilbert shared this Ezra Klein podcast episode, which focuses on the intersection between the movie Odysseus and its relevance to where we find ourselves now in our democracy. This discussion explores how Homer’s epic and modern cinematic retelling mirror today’s political landscape, democratic decay, power struggles, and how societies handle leadership and collective suffering. October 2026:
The first podcast recommendation so far is Politics Girl. Interestingly, Leigh McGowan has a NEW book, A Return to Common Sense: How to Fix America Before We Really Blow It, coming out September 17, 2026. This will be our October book, and we'll include the podcast as an extra resource for our October meeting.
